Alfons Maria Mucha (1860 – 1939), often known in English and French as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. He produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs. Fruit (1897) is probably one of Mucha's most popular works. A young woman with an armful of fruit is glancing backwards at the spectator. She may have stopped just to say 'Hello' or perhaps 'Happy Birthday!'. Perhaps she intends to give away all those fruits, as in a birthday present?
