Add your text to the blank back of this versatile hand-out. + St. Gabriel, Archangel of the Annunciation, brings up the rear on the right-hand side of the painting Three Archangels and Tobias by Francesco Botticini (1446-1498), a minor master of the Early Italian Renaissance. Clad in a white gown shaded in pastel pinks, blues, and violets, and wrapped in a green mantle lined in aqua blue, St. Gabriel carries a lily, symbol of purity, and his principal attribute. Like the other Archangels, he has an openwork halo but walks barefoot. His wings are darker shades of pink and purple. + Feast: September 29 + Image Credit (M 017): Detail of Three Archangels and Tobias, by Francesco Botticini (1446-1498), tempera on panel, 60 5/8” x 53 1/8” (154cm x 135cm), Florentine Italian, ca. 1470, Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy. {{PD-Art|PD-old-100}}.
